'Once Upon a Story' is a weekly feature in which we go back in time and focus on a specific novel that was released in the same month we're in right now (in this case May), but a few years back! It can be a women's fiction classic from the 1990's or perhaps a great chick lit read from 2011. I thought it would be nice to not just focus on recent releases, but also take the chance to jump back in time once a week and look back at wonderful reads that have been released over the years!
Lara has always had an overactive imagination. Now she wonders if she is losing her mind. Normal twenty-something girls just don’t get visited by ghosts! But inexplicably, the spirit of Lara’s great aunt Sadie – in the form of a bold, demanding Charleston-dancing girl – has appeared to make one last request: Lara must track down a missing necklace Sadie simply can’t rest without.
Lara’s got enough problems of her own. Her start-up company is floundering, her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, and she’s just been dumped by the love of her life.
But as Lara spends time with Sadie, life becomes more glamorous and their treasure hunt turns into something intriguing and romantic. Could Sadie’s ghost be the answer to Lara’s problems and can two girls from different times end up learning something special from each other?
In July 2009, one of my favourite Sophie Kinsella novels was published, 'Twenties Girl.' The book has quite an original plotline, focusing on main protagonist Lara who sees the ghost of her great aunt Sadie. Sadie wants Lara to help her look for a special necklace and together they build up a rather special relationship. I loved the friendship between Lara and Sadie, and just thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you're a fan of Sophie Kinsella's work and haven't read this book yet, definitely pick it up, because it's an amazing read!
Be sure to visit the blog next week for another blast from chick lit past with 'Once Upon a Story...'!
