Review: 'The Right Side of Mr. Wrong' by Jane Linfoot (2014)

One-off, moving on sex, wasn’t meant to be this hot…

When determined singleton Shea Summers is persuaded to become the “wife” of the Lord of Edgerton Manor, the last thing she wants to do is play house with a stranger.

Brooding playboy Brando Marshall is far from happy when Shea turns up at his sprawling estate with production crew in tow. Surely she’s just another woman after his wallet? And if she’s looking for Mr Right, she’s definitely hitting on the wrong guy. Then again, after catching an unscheduled glimpse of her knickers, perhaps Brando needs to teach this “gold-digger” a lesson!

She’s seizing the moment, he’s breaking the rules, and when bad boys can be so much fun, who can resist getting on the right side of Mr. Wrong…

It’s been quite some time since the women’s fiction team at publisher HarperCollins brought us HarperImpulse, an exciting new range of romance fiction. Since the start of HarperImpulse, we have been treated to numerous wonderful stories from exciting new debut authors, and the romance tales keep on coming! In August 2013, Jane Linfoot’s first novel ‘How to Win a Guy in 10 Dates’ was published, and this was followed by ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’ on the 6th of March 2014. Thanks to the lovely Jane I received a review copy of her second novel and I looked forward to diving into one of her stories!

Twenty-something Shea Summers is a professional organiser who is really dedicated to her work. In her past she has been through quite a lot, and in order to show her friends that she has moved on she signs up for a reality TV show; a show in which the Lord of large country house Edgerton Manor is searching for a suitable wife. However, if there is one thing playboy Brando Marshall is not looking for, it’s another woman who simply wants him for his money. From the first second Shea and Brando are thrown together, they can’t stand one another. At the same time, though, it’s difficult to ignore the undeniable heat between the two of them...

If you’re looking for a steamy romance read, then this is definitely the right novel to pick up! The sizzling heat between the two main characters, Shea and Brando, sparked off the pages and had me quite captivated from the beginning. However, ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’ is more than just a steamy read, because the background stories to both Shea and Brando really added another layer to it all. Brando comes across as an arrogant playboy while Shea is a determined and slightly distant woman, but both of them have their own personal issues and throughout the story the reader gets to know both characters and the reasons behind their actions. Occasionally I just wanted to shake them, because of their incredible stubbornness, but at the same time I definitely really warmed to both characters and wanted to continue reading to find out what would eventually happen.

I loved the setting of the novel; a gorgeous country estate (including a handsome Lord)! It is quite a fast-paced and quick read with not too many secondary characters, and a clear main focus on Shea and Brando. I also really enjoyed that the story was told from both their points of view, so a male and female perspective. On the whole, ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’ is a sizzling hot, well-written and fast-paced read that will certainly be enjoyed by any romance fan!
