Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Characters You Just Didn't Click With

'Top Ten Tuesday' is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. I love making lists, so this feature fits me perfectly! If you also take part in this feature or have any additions to my lists, please get in touch; I'd love to hear from you!

Top Ten Characters You Just Didn't Click With

Oh my, I had more trouble with this week's Top Ten Tuesday list than I initially expected I would have! The topic for this week's top 10 is characters you just didn't click with. I guess this is something that definitely happens to me, but I still found it tricky to just come up with a few titles out of the top of my head. So, thank you Goodreads, I decided to have a look at all the books I've read over the past couple of years and managed to come to quite a diverse list, if I may so!

I can't wait to read some other lists because I'm quite curious to see which characters made it onto other people's top 10!

1. Katniss Everdeen from 'The Hunger Games'

While I did enjoy reading Suzanne Collins' famous book series 'The Hunger Games', I never really managed to click with protagonist Katniss Everdeen. I don't know why, but I just didn't really like her and that didn't change throughout the entire series.

2. Tess from 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles'

I remember having to read 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles' as one of the first books on my classic English literature list when I was at university. Tess frustrated me from start to finish; I just wanted to jump into the story and slap her in the face.

3. Ana Steele from 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

I read the Fifty Shades trilogy, partly because I wanted to know why everyone was talking about it and partly because I did enjoy the story in a way. However, I didn't click with the main character Ana. I don't think the author really provided the reader with a lot of detail to get to know Ana, so I didn't feel anything, really, when it came to her as a character.

4. Faith Cotton from 'P.S. Olive You'

One of the most recent novels I've read in which I just didn't click with the main character.

5. Clara Hutt from 'Mutton'

I received this review book a few years ago and was really curious to read it. I don't know whether it was the age of the main character Clara or just her life in general, but I didn't feel any kind of link to her while I was reading the novel, which was too bad.

6. Main characters from 'Lone Wolf'

I don't know why exactly, but I somehow always have trouble connecting with characters from Jodi Picoult novels. I remember 'Lone Wolf' specifically, but it could have been any Jodi Picoult novel... Somehow her stories manage to grab me, but the characters just don't.

7. Hamlet from 'Hamlet'

I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't manage to build up a connection with Hamlet... Right?

8. Evie Dexter from 'It Happened in Paris'

Another chick lit read which I couldn't wait to read, but in the end slightly disappointed me because of the main character, Evie, whom I just couldn't click with.

9. Dexter and Emma from 'One Day'

I know this novel is adored by numerous people out there, but somehow it just didn't do anything for me.

10. Isabel from 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'

One of the only YA novels I've picked up in the past couple of years and it reminded me why I'm not really a YA fan. I just can't click anymore with teenage characters and their worries since I'm not a teenager anymore. I really hope I will be able to pick up a YA novel that I end up loving, so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

  1. Agree. No connection to Hamlet! A loose cannon, I thought. His parents should have reined him in when he was young.

  2. I was never a huge Katniss fan. There was never anything that made me connect with her emotionally!

  4. Oooh Katniss is an interesting choice. I liked her in Books One & Two, but found her a bit whiny in 'Mockingjay'. I can see why she got on other people's nerves. Definitely a marmite character!

Check out my Top Ten Tuesday list!

Also, last chance to enter my giveaway!
