Review: 'Summer at the Little Wedding Shop' by Jane Linfoot (2017)

The third book in the bestselling series, ‘The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea’.

Summer fun comes to Brides by the Sea and there’s love in the Cornish sea breeze as the girls tackle their busiest wedding season yet. There’s plenty of bunting, bubbly and baking – but who is going to catch the bouquet?

I'm so glad author Jane Linfoot contacted me a few weeks ago with the question whether I was interested to review the third part of her lovely series about the Little Wedding Shop by the Sea. Both Jane and her novels have been some of my favourites during the past few years, and even though I actually stopped accepting book review requests because I'm closing down the blog, I couldn't possibly say no to her. When I read 'The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea' I immediately loved everything about it and I'm so glad to have been given the chance to check out this third and latest instalment of the series. I was more than ready to dive back into the world of weddings and once again meet up with some familiar faces...!

Wedding dress shop Brides by the Sea is doing better than ever, and when boss Jess decides to open a special section for styling weddings she immediately knows whom she wants as her stylist. Lily is mainly used to working with flowers, but as she finds herself out of a job she decided to take Jess' offer with both hands and make the best of it. But then Kip Penryn, a familiar face from Lily's past, unexpectedly shows up in Cornwall and sets up a rival wedding business in a gorgeous country mansion down the road. Without even a second to worry about her new job, Lily is sent to investigate and check out the enemy; what are Kip's plans and how will this affect Lily and her friends and their wedding business...?

As soon as I picked up this novel I knew Jane Linfoot wouldn't let me down, and as expected: she didn't! 'Summer at the Little Wedding Shop' is the third part of this book series, published by Harper Impulse, and it's a series I honestly can't get enough of. The first part already made me fall in love with Brides by the Sea (the wedding shop that's central to the story), the different characters (Poppy, Sera, Jess, Rafe, Immie, Lily...), the setting and the engaging and simply great storylines. The second part of the series was just as great, and I can say the third part follows the exact same line. While the novel can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series, because you won't be disappointed (especially if you're a chick lit fan).

This novel focuses on Lily, who is a great and easily likeable main character, and some handsome man candy is added to the novel in the form of Kip Penryn. I loved the fun banter between Kip and Lily and felt myself rooting for them from the start. There were several different aspects to the story and I really loved how the pace of the book was great and all the different storylines kept me captivated and entertained at all times. All in all, I think 'Summer at the Little Wedding Shop' is a simply fabulous, sweet and delightful wedding-filled story by author Jane Linfoot; a fantastic third part of this series, and the only thing left for me to say is: when can we expect part four...?!

Review: 'Christmas at the Little Wedding Shop' by Jane Linfoot (2016)

The snow is falling around Brides by the Sea, Cornwall’s cutest little wedding shop, and wedding dress designer Seraphina East is in her cosy studio designing exquisite dresses to make even the most demanding bride’s dreams come true.

Unless the bride is her big sister Alice of course. Saying that the two sisters don’t always see eye to eye is an understatement. Alice hasn’t even asked Sera to design her wedding dress. But when an absent groom and ill-fitting dress threaten to ruin Alice’s happiness let alone her big day, Sera’s determined to give her sister the winter wedding of her dreams – even if that means keeping not one but two irresistibly gorgeous best men under control…

Is Sera going to end up being the maid of dishonour…Or will repairing her frozen relationship with Alice be the icing on the wedding cake?

Over the past few years I've had the pleasure of reading several of author Jane Linfoot's books, such as 'The Vintage Cinema Club' (click here to read my review), which I loved, and most recently the first part of her new series 'Cupcakes and Confetti: The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea' (click here to read my review). I really loved that one and as soon as I'd finished it I was already looking forward to the second part, 'Sequins and Snowflakes: Christmas at the Little Wedding Shop'. Luckily, the lovely Jane herself made sure I received a review copy of the novel (thanks so much, Jane!) and it has been one of this year's festive winter reads I was most excited about, because I had a good feeling it would end up being one of my favourites of this year...!

Seraphina East, known to her friends as Sera, loves her job working as a wedding dress designer in shop 'Brides by the Sea' in St. Aiden in Cornwall. Having to deal with her bridezilla sister Alice is a completely different matter, though. Sera and Alice don't always see eye to eye, and Alice's winter wedding, which she has been saving for and planning for the past three years, is one of the matters that causes quite a bit of tension. But when everything seems to go wrong, Sera is determined to fix things and give her sister the wedding she deserves. With the help of her wedding shop colleagues and the two best men, Quinn and Johnny, Sera tries her best, but will she be able to save the day or will a bit of Christmas magic and determination simply not be enough this time around...?

'Christmas at the Little Wedding Shop' is the second part of Jane Linfoot's series that focuses on 'Brides by the Sea', a wedding shop in Cornwall. In the first instalment we were introduced to Poppy, the wedding cake baker and close friend of our leading lady in this second book, Seraphina, who designs wedding dresses. I'm a sucker for novels about weddings and I have to say Jane Linfoot has done an amazing job with this series. The characters are wonderful (I already loved Poppy and other familiar faces such as Jess and Rafe, but Sera really won me over in this book that's all about her), the setting is stunning with great descriptions, the storylines are captivating and I just thoroughly enjoyed everything about it, really!

What makes this novel extra special is the added Christmas element; a winter wedding takes centre stage in the story and the descriptions were just gorgeous. Combined with the story it made me feel all warm inside, and I really didn't want the story to end. For those of you who haven't read the first part of the series, you should definitely give it a chance, but you can also start with this one because it can quite easily be read as a stand-alone. I could go on and on about the lovely wedding details and the handsome best men Quinn and Johnny, but it's best if you just go out and get a copy yourself! Jane linfoot has done an amazing job with 'Christmas at the Little Wedding Shop'; it's a gorgeous, festive, sparkling read that left me with a big smile on my face. I honestly already can't wait for the third part which will be released in 2017... Loved it!

Review: 'The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea' by Jane Linfoot (2016)

Brides by the Sea, the cutest little wedding shop in all of Cornwall, has it all, including cake baker Poppy who lives upstairs. But wedding planning is not the piece of cake Poppy thought it would be, and when her best friend Cate’s wedding planner walks out, Poppy has to tie up the loose ends so her bestie can tie the knot.

Double-booked venues, ‘rustic’ locations and gorgeous but grumpy farmer Rafe have this wedding pro feeling like she could be Cate’s ‘something blue.’

Will the wedding, the shop and the cake all come crashing down on her? Or will Poppy pull it off to give Cate – and herself – the happy ever afters they deserve?

I've always loved books about weddings; I don't know what it is exactly but all the wedding prep with the pretty dresses, fabulous locations, trouble shooting, delicious cakes... I guess it just makes for some quite entertaining reading material! So when I first heard author Jane Linfoot would be releasing the first part of a completely new series, titled 'Cupcakes and Confetti', set in a wedding shop, I immediately knew I wanted to read it. Also because I really enjoyed Jane's last novel, 'The Vintage Cinema Club' (click here to read my review) and couldn't wait to see what she would treat us to next. 'The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea' was released in April by HarperImpulse and has the cutest book cover, I love it. A big thanks to Jane herself for providing me with a review copy; as soon as I picked this up I already had a good feeling I would end up loving it...

Poppy loves baking cakes and it's pretty great that she has managed to turn her passion into a freelance job while living on the top floor of wedding shop 'Brides by the Sea' in Cornwall. However, when her best friend Cate unexpectedly loses her wedding planner, Poppy is the one to save the day by temporarily taking on another job as event manager/wedding planner at local venue Daisy Hil Farm. Before she knows it, Poppy has to deal with double-booked weddings, spoiled brides and, last but certainly not least, her new boss: moody farm owner Rafe. Poppy tries her very best to juggle all the balls she's trying to hold up, but will she be able to deal with everything that's thrown at her and guarantee her best friend the amazing wedding she deserves?

If you're a real sucker for romance, just like I am, you definitely do not want to miss 'The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea', Jane Linfoot's brilliant new novel. After seeing the gorgeous book cover and reading the promising book description, I had high hopes for this novel and I'm glad to see the story definitely managed to meet them! The book revolves around main character Poppy, who unexpectedly becomes a wedding planner at local venue Daisy Hill Farm to help out her best friend. I straight away liked Poppy and loved joining her on her adventures within the world of wedding planning. I loved all the cakes, the dresses, the brides... I was completely captivated by the story and didn't want to put the book down but keep on reading and discover whether Poppy would manage to make everything work or not.

I've had the pleasure of reading several of Jane Linfoot's works so far, and in my personal opinion her writing just keep getting better and better and this is undoubtedly her best novel yet. I'm so happy this is actually just the start of the 'Cupcakes and Confetti' series and I already can't wait to see what will happen in the following instalment. I have only good things to say about this book and its storyline, the characters, the romance aspect, the scene setting... It's an amazing read and one I highly recommend to any chick lit/romance fans out there. 'The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea' is a  feel-good, light-hearted, romantic read that I couldn't get enough of and I already can't wait for part 2!

Review & Fun Facts: 'The Vintage Cinema Club' by Jane Linfoot (2015)

Meet The Vintage Cinema Club….

Izzy is a wow at making unwanted things pretty, but with three brothers and her shabby chic furniture business to run she doesn’t have time to date. Could a fabulous French proposal change her mind?

Single mum Luce’s vintage bridal dresses are exquisite, but there’s no way she’s ever going to wear one or walk down the aisle for that matter. She’s a strictly no romance, one night kind of woman – or so she thinks…

Dida seems to have it all – a chocolate and banana cake recipe to die for, lovely kids (most of the time!) and a great lifestyle. But what good is a fabulous home, when your marriage has more cracks than a pavlova and your husband is having it off with half of Lithuania?

Three retro fabulous friends, in love with all things vintage, run their dream business from the faded grandeur of a rescued cinema. When that dream comes under threat, they’ll do whatever it takes to save it.

One of the book releases of the past couple of months which I had been really looking forward to picking up has to be Jane Linfoot’s ‘The Vintage Cinema Club’! Not only does the book have a stunning cover which I fell in love with as soon as I saw it, but the blurb also promises a great story with three fascinating leading ladies whose stories I couldn’t wait to check out. The novel was released on the 24th of May by Harper Impulse and I was incredibly lucky to receive a review copy from Jane Linfoot herself. I got the chance to read and review Jane’s two other novels ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’ (click here to read my review) and ‘High Heels and Bicycle Wheels’ (click here to read my review) earlier and definitely had high hopes for ‘The Vintage Cinema Club’ as well!

Izzy, Luce and Dida are three women who all have their own issues in life to deal with, but also one pretty special something that brings them together every single day: The Vintage Cinema Club, their business, which is focused on everything vintage, set in an old cinema building in the town of Matlock. Izzy is completely focused on her work and doesn’t want to even think about romance or men, until the handsome Xander appears on the scene. Single mother Luce only cares about raising her daughter, and doesn’t need the complication of men (besides a one-night-stand every now and again)... Or does she? And last but certainly not least, Dida, who seems to have everything to the outside world, but is driven crazy by her horrible husband’s antics. Luckily, all three women have the Vintage Cinema Club... Until they hear their building is suddenly for sale without them having been informed of this. Next to their personal lives, Izzy, Luce and Dida all know what they need to do: save the Vintage Cinema Club, no matter what it takes.

I have only got love love love for this book; what a wonderful treat from Jane Linfoot! It seems like Jane’s writing is only getting better and better, and I have to say I absolutely loved almost everything about ‘The Vintage Cinema Club’; what a great read! I personally loved the fact that the book has three leading ladies in the form of Luce, Izzy and Dida. Each of them had their own story to share with the reader, and all three stories were a real joy to get stuck into. I enjoyed the diversity; the characters and their stories are all really different. They come from different backgrounds and have different things to deal with in their lives. The storyline revolving around The Vintage Cinema Club brings all of them together, since they are about to lose the building they all love so much. There was more than enough to hold my interest, and I couldn’t get enough of the book and especially the characters (any hope for a sequel, Jane...?).

The book has a great and comfortable pace and the relatively short chapters made it easy to just pick up the book whenever, wherever, and squeeze in a few pages. I liked the changing between perspectives; providing the reader with the opportunity to get to know each of the characters a bit better and on a more personal level. Each character in the novel is unique and really has their own voice; the author did a great job on this and really paid attention to working out the different storylines and characters’ backgrounds. This novel is a great mix of romance and chick lit, and I am sure any fan of those genres will enjoy this from start to finish. Overall, ‘The Vintage Cinema Club’ is a simply stunning and thoroughly enjoyable read which I devoured in just a few hours; a read that comes highly recommended!

Fun Facts from Jane Linfoot!

The inspiration for Vintage at the Cinema, the shared vintage shop in the old cinema, which is the central star of the book, first came from a visit to The Lanes in Brighton.

Izzy, one of the three friends at the centre of the book, meets moody film producer, Xander, when he catches her raiding a skip on his building site. I love hauling treasures out of skips too, but I haven’t ever got stuck in one.

Luce is another of the friends featured. Her love of vintage textiles expanded to include wedding dresses after I visited The Curious Bride, a fab vintage bridal shop in Manchester.

Like Luce, I’ve always loved rescuing vintage clothes. I got my beautiful fifties lace wedding dress from a jumble sale.

I chose the name Xander because I love names which begin with the letter X. My son’s middle name is Xavier.

The wonderful cakes Dida bakes in the book are all based on my fave recipes, and are as mouth wateringly delicious in real life as they sound.

Xander and Izzy end up in the south of France, visiting Brocante markets, which is something I love to do on my summer holidays. We are all hooked on old wire baskets.

Izzy and I aren’t alike, but she dives in the skip to pull out a cherub, and I do have a few cherubs around my house too.

Thanks so much, Jane!

Review & Interview: 'High Heels and Bicycle Wheels' by Jane Linfoot

Meet Bryony: she’s a fun-loving, very single TV production assistant whose idea of sport is the Jimmy Choo sales scrum.

Meet Jackson: Cycling’s bad boy superstar. Injured and out of a certain race this summer, without his training, he’s looking for another distraction…

Bryony’s facing a triple whammy – her last single friend just named the day, her mother’s offering to have her eggs frozen, and the guy she’s loved from afar, forever, has just got hitched. So she’s more than happy to accept the offer of a totally out of character but seriously steamy one night of no-strings fun. Especially when the guy in question is so attractive he even looks good in Lycra!

Jackson’s on the lookout for a new career but if the opportunity to work on TV means a fortnight with the most uptight woman in the world, he’d rather not bother. He never goes in for seconds – and who in their right mind would head off in a campervan, with a woman who irons her knickers?

Add in a tandem (yes a tandem) and fast forward to double trouble for a summer neither of them will ever forget!

The lovely Jane Linfoot contacted me herself about possibly reviewing her latest release, after I had reviewed her other novella 'The Right Side of Mr. Wrong' (click here to read my review). ‘High Heels and Bicycle Wheels’ was released by digital imprint Harper Impulse on the 10th of July 2014 and promised another steamy romance from Jane Linfoot, and I was quite curious to check it out , especially after having read many positive things about the novel on Twitter!

Bryony works as a TV production assistant, a job she’s really good at and loves. When it comes to her love life, however, things aren’t going that smoothly. All of her friends are getting hitched and her mother is even talking about freezing Bryony’s eggs, because it might take a while before she meets her Mr. Right. Then Bryony is forced to work together with famous cyclist Jackson Gale who is trying to start a TV career. Jackson is always on the look-out for a night of fun and there’s something about feisty Bryony that attracts him. The chemistry between them is undeniable and it doesn’t take long before they end up in bed together. But then the TV station decides Bryony and Jackson work so well together, they have to spend the entire summer making a new TV series, something which neither of them is looking forward to...

For those of you who read Jane Linfoot’s ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’, the protagonist of this novel will be a familiar face. Bryony is actually Brando’s younger sister, and I was really excited to find out Jane Linfoot decided to write an entire book about her! Just like her other stories, this one is quite a steamy read with two intriguing main characters at its core. Bryony is feisty and independent but struggling with trust issues because of her background, and Jackson is handsome but quite full of himself and dealing with his own troubles. The sexual tension between the two is great and the banter definitely made for some entertaining scenes. Next to that, the book has quite an original plot and even though I am not a professional cycling fan at all, Jane Linfoot really managed to turn this topic into something fun.

I really enjoyed the fact that the story is told from both a female (Bryony’s) and a male (Jackson’s) perspective, so the reader gets to discover more about the characters and the reasons for their actions. I have to say I did think the story was perhaps a bit too slow-paced and the game between Bryony and Jackson took quite a long time. If the book had been shorter and the story had progressed a tad faster, I think I would have enjoyed it even more. Overall, ‘High Heels and Bicycle Wheels’ is another steamy and enjoyable Jane Linfoot read; a story to pick up if you’re looking for something fun, light-hearted and sexy!

Author interview with Jane Linfoot!

I'm really excited to welcome Jane Linfoot to the blog today to answer some questions about her lovely new novel 'High Heels and Bicycle Wheels', her future plans and her own favourite reads!

Can you tell us something about your novel, ‘High Heels and Bicycle Wheels’?
In 'High Heels & Bicycle Wheels', we meet TV production assistant Bryony, from 'The Right Side Of Mr Wrong'. So the most unsporty girl on the planet, is thrown together with hot, complex, pro cyclist, Jackson, whose demons are overtaking him. A sizzling one night stand is inevitable, but neither of these defiantly single people expected to meet up again, least of all for a two week road trip. Think camper vans, beaches, and one long, hot, summer that will change their lives forever. This is sexy chick lit, with a whole lot of humour and emotion thrown into the mix.

Where did you get the inspiration for your novel? Is it in any way based on your own personal experiences?
As a writer you find inspiration anywhere and everywhere, but often ideas begin with a tiny real life moment, and then grow from there. Bryony was demanding her own story, and then one day when I was out at a cycling race in Lincoln, I saw a TV crew running around the town, with a blonde presenter, in high heeled trainers, interviewing the riders. Kerching! I knew instantly that Bryony was going to be working on a sports programme, and interviewing a cyclist. I do admit to being inspired by a set of pictures of David Gandy wearing very little at this point. Enter Jackson Gale... I like weaving my own experiences into the story, because it enables me to give a truly authentic feel. Bryony’s terror on the tandem was based directly on my own experiences, and I did once have a camper van too.

Can you tell us a bit more about the main protagonist, Bryony?
Bryony marched onto the page fully formed in 'The Right Side Of Mr Wrong' and she refused to go away until I’d given her a story of her own. Bryony is a fun loving, determinedly single TV production assistant, who is used to charming people to do exactly what she asks, but beneath her dynamic, confident exterior she has a lot of issues. She’s also nursing a secretly breaking heart, as the guy she loved from afar has just got married. Then she’s thrown together with Jackson, and for the first time in her life, she’s going head to head with a guy who is just as strong as she is, who she fancies the pants off. So it’s fast forward, to double trouble.

There’s a great cast of supporting characters in the novel as well. Which character did you most enjoy writing?
I loved writing Bryony’s best friend Cressy, because she’s so different to Bryony, and such fun. Cressy is demanding a book of her own, which she may just get sometime soon. It was also great to have Shea and Brando back on the page again (from 'The Right Side Of Mr Wrong'), because I really enjoy them. Brando has mellowed, but he still has plenty to learn. This is a stand alone book, which you can enjoy even if you haven’t read The Right Side Of Mr Wrong yet.

Did you do any particular research for parts of the book?
Bryony has a fab shoe collection, which was the perfect excuse for hours of online research, and lots of visits to drool over the shoes in Harvey Nics. Some research is SO arduous ;)

Can you perhaps tell us something about your future plans? Are you perhaps already working on a next novel?
I have two first drafts I’m working with, and another two novels at the post-it stage. With a new project I like to have a well worked out structure, and I get to know my characters as well as I know my best friends. Then I begin to write.

Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
Writing is a solitary activity, but joining a writing group, either online, or locally, can help a lot. If you find the right group for you, you’ll get tips, support and inspiration. Try to write something every day – and luckily jokey emails to friends do count as writing. And never give up.

What is the last book you read that you’d like to recommend to others?
Easy to answer. I just finished 'Stable Mates' by Zara Stoneley. I love Zara’s writing, and this is a fabulous romp of a book, with some great characters, and a brilliant story. If you haven’t read it already, grab it! Now!

Which book could you not live without?
Too hard to answer.

And last but not least, if you had to describe ‘High Heels and Bicycle Wheels’ in just three words, which words would you pick?
Hot summer fun.

Thanks so much, Jane! :)

Review: 'The Right Side of Mr. Wrong' by Jane Linfoot (2014)

One-off, moving on sex, wasn’t meant to be this hot…

When determined singleton Shea Summers is persuaded to become the “wife” of the Lord of Edgerton Manor, the last thing she wants to do is play house with a stranger.

Brooding playboy Brando Marshall is far from happy when Shea turns up at his sprawling estate with production crew in tow. Surely she’s just another woman after his wallet? And if she’s looking for Mr Right, she’s definitely hitting on the wrong guy. Then again, after catching an unscheduled glimpse of her knickers, perhaps Brando needs to teach this “gold-digger” a lesson!

She’s seizing the moment, he’s breaking the rules, and when bad boys can be so much fun, who can resist getting on the right side of Mr. Wrong…

It’s been quite some time since the women’s fiction team at publisher HarperCollins brought us HarperImpulse, an exciting new range of romance fiction. Since the start of HarperImpulse, we have been treated to numerous wonderful stories from exciting new debut authors, and the romance tales keep on coming! In August 2013, Jane Linfoot’s first novel ‘How to Win a Guy in 10 Dates’ was published, and this was followed by ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’ on the 6th of March 2014. Thanks to the lovely Jane I received a review copy of her second novel and I looked forward to diving into one of her stories!

Twenty-something Shea Summers is a professional organiser who is really dedicated to her work. In her past she has been through quite a lot, and in order to show her friends that she has moved on she signs up for a reality TV show; a show in which the Lord of large country house Edgerton Manor is searching for a suitable wife. However, if there is one thing playboy Brando Marshall is not looking for, it’s another woman who simply wants him for his money. From the first second Shea and Brando are thrown together, they can’t stand one another. At the same time, though, it’s difficult to ignore the undeniable heat between the two of them...

If you’re looking for a steamy romance read, then this is definitely the right novel to pick up! The sizzling heat between the two main characters, Shea and Brando, sparked off the pages and had me quite captivated from the beginning. However, ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’ is more than just a steamy read, because the background stories to both Shea and Brando really added another layer to it all. Brando comes across as an arrogant playboy while Shea is a determined and slightly distant woman, but both of them have their own personal issues and throughout the story the reader gets to know both characters and the reasons behind their actions. Occasionally I just wanted to shake them, because of their incredible stubbornness, but at the same time I definitely really warmed to both characters and wanted to continue reading to find out what would eventually happen.

I loved the setting of the novel; a gorgeous country estate (including a handsome Lord)! It is quite a fast-paced and quick read with not too many secondary characters, and a clear main focus on Shea and Brando. I also really enjoyed that the story was told from both their points of view, so a male and female perspective. On the whole, ‘The Right Side of Mr. Wrong’ is a sizzling hot, well-written and fast-paced read that will certainly be enjoyed by any romance fan!

March 2014 releases!

The month of March has already arrived, which means Spring is getting closer! I'm already hearing birds singing the occasional song when I'm making my way to work every morning and the sun is showing its lovely bright face more and more...
