Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Book to Movie Adaptations

'Top Ten Tuesday' is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. I love making lists, so this feature fits me perfectly! If you also take part in this feature or have any additions to my lists, please get in touch; I'd love to hear from you!

Top 10 Book to Movie Adaptations

This week we got to pick our own top 10 list and I decided to go with a top 10 that has been done before but I wasn't able to join in with the fun. I always prefer to read a book before I see its film adaptation, even though I don't always manage to stick to that particular rule. Today's top 10 consists of 10 book-to-movie adaptations I personally loved; I'd love to hear what some of your favourites are! :)

1. Harry Potter

Obviously the Harry Potter series deserves to be mentioned in this top 10. I think the entire film series was incredibly well done and really did the books justice, even though lots of things from the books never made it into the actual films.

2. Stardust

A truly brilliant film adaptation and one of the only instances mentioned in this list where I honestly think the film is better than the book.

3. Pride and Prejudice (1995)

Without a doubt the best 'Pride and Prejudice' adaptation; I love almost everything about it.

4. Little Women (1994)

One of my favourite films of all time <3 I couldn't get enough of it when I was a girl and it's still one of my favourite novels.

5. The Devil Wears Prada

Another great film adaptation that stayed really close to the original book and the casting was incredibly well done.

6. Twilight

I know lots of people think the film series of 'Twilight' was horrible, but I especially loved the first film, almost as much as I loved the first book of the series.

7. Confessions of a Shopaholic

A must-see for any chick lit fan, and a must-read as well, of course!

8. The Notebook

All Nicholas Sparks film adaptations are amazing, if you ask me. I picked 'The Notebook' for this list, but I honestly love all of them.

9. Something Borrowed

One of my favourite books and films; one where, once again, the casting was incredibly well done.

10. Matilda

Another childhood favourite, both film and book. Mara Wilson was meant to play Matilda!

  1. Yes Harry Potter was a great book-to-movie adaptation. As was Twilight. I'd add Hunger Games and the Lord of the Rings to the list too.

  6. Excellent choice for freebie week! And also great picks, I agree with every single one of these. I'm a totally LOTR nerd so would have to add that one in their too, but otherwise it's perfect! The HP films really were amazing, my only wish was that they had the technology that they used in the later films for the first few films too, but they are still my top ones too by far!

    1. Thanks so much! :) And yes, I completely understand about LOTR, it would definitely have been mentioned in a top 20 ;)

  7. Harry Potter would definitely be at the top of my list, as well! Those books were ridiculously amazing and I had no idea how they would ever do them justice, but they did an excellent job. I know it's really weird for a book lover to say this, but I think I liked The Notebook movie better than the book (eek!). Such a great adaptation too though. Fun list!

  9. This list is great! I adore Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, and The Notebook of course- all great movie adaptions. Harry Potter more so they did a great job- although some details I do wish were there. For example In I think The Chamber of Secrets they didn't include Hermione helping out the house elves out of slavery! (I'm not sure why I enjoyed this but it was cute).

Perhaps an unpopular opinion but ever since reading the Twilight saga I felt the films destroyed the books which is a shame, I really enjoyed reading them in school. Team Edward always though!

    1. Yes, I have to agree with you when it comes to HP and the missing details! I wouldn't have minded if the films had been 6 hours instead of 2 or 3, haha!

I read the Twilight books after I saw the films, and I was blown away by the first book. The emotions in there are just amazing, definitely remains to be one of my favourite love stories of all time!

Will definitely check out your TTT, thanks for visiting, Emma! :)
