Review: 'Double Click' by Lisa Becker (2013)

Fans of the romantic hit Click: An Online Love Story will enjoy another voyeuristic dive into the lives of Renee, Shelley, Ashley, Mark and Ethan, as Double Click picks up with their lives six months later. Are Renee and Ethan soul mates? Does Mark ever go on a date? Has Shelley run out of sexual conquests in Los Angeles? Will Ashley's judgmental nature sabotage her budding relationship? Through a marriage proposal, wedding, new baby and unexpected love twist, Double Click answers these questions and more. Readers will continue to cheer, laugh, cry and cringe following the email exploits of Renee and friends.

Last year I got the opportunity to read and review Lisa Becker’s novel ‘Click: an Online Love Story’ for this blog; a book in which the story is completely told in the form of e-mails and a book I ended up thoroughly enjoying. I was lucky enough to also receive a review copy of the sequel to ‘Click’, titled ‘Double Click’, from the lovely Lisa. Seeing how much I enjoyed the first book, I looked forward to picking up this next part as well to see what main character Renee and her friends would get up to this time around!

In this second part of the ‘Click’ series, we join Renee and her friends quite some time after the ending of the first novel and several things have happened. Renee is incredibly happy with her boyfriend Ethan; Ashley is about to become a mother for the first time; Mark has found a new girl whom he is pretty serious about; and Shelley is acting out of character and obviously hiding something from her friends, but no one is sure what’s going on. Lots of different things are happening in the world of Renee and her friends, and through their e-mails we get to experience it all with them.

Just like the first ‘Click’ book, this novel is completely written in the form of e-mails. While some people might expect this to provide less detail or the chance to go in-depth, Lisa Becker proves that this is definitely not the case. I personally loved reading a book in this particular format, a format that makes it really easy and quick to fly through the pages of the book; a format that made me both smile and feel for the different characters; and a format that fits this modern day and age perfectly. We all use messaging services like e-mail constantly to connect with one another, and it’s great to see an author use this in this particular way to tell a story.

The book has a wonderful group of friends at its core, each with their own individual character. It was a lot of fun to follow what goes on in their lives and to read their conversations. In order to really get to know these characters and to understand what is going on in their lives, I do recommend reading the first book as well, instead of starting with ‘Double Click’ as a stand-alone. I’m really excited to know Lisa Becker wrote and released the third part of the series last year and I can’t wait to once again join Renee and her friends in the near future. ‘Double Click’ is a thoroughly enjoyable, quick and fun read, and the second book of a series I highly recommend!
Rating:8,5/10

Upcoming release: 'Valentine's on Primrose Hill' by Nikki Moore

The third short story in the fun & flirty #LoveLondon series from exciting new chick lit author Nikki Moore!

For Georgiana Dunn, life changed forever in the devastating moment that the lorry hit her car.

Scarred and scared, she's not left the house in months. Then her mum buys her a puppy, forcing her to face the world again, walking on London's beautiful Primrose Hill. But that doesn't mean she's looking forward to Valentine's Day.

Leo devotes himself to working with children with special educational needs. In fact, he does very little else, and his friends are always telling him to get a (love) life. So when they challenge him to find a date for Valentine's Day, and he meets a lovely but lost girl who looks like she could use a friend, he thinks he's found the perfect solution.

But life has a way of being less than perfect … Will he be left standing on his own on the most romantic day of the year?

On the 29th of January, the third part of Nikki Moore's #LoveLondon series will be released, titled 'Valentine's on Primrose Hill.' I absolutely love the covers and blurbs of Nikki Moore's book series and while I'm writing this I still can't believe I haven't checked the other parts out yet. It sounds like the perfect read for chick lit fans, like me, and I just love everything about it: from the fact that the stories are all set in different locations in London to the promised romantic stories... I have a good feeling this is a definite must-read this January!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Book to Movie Adaptations

'Top Ten Tuesday' is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. I love making lists, so this feature fits me perfectly! If you also take part in this feature or have any additions to my lists, please get in touch; I'd love to hear from you!

Top 10 Book to Movie Adaptations

This week we got to pick our own top 10 list and I decided to go with a top 10 that has been done before but I wasn't able to join in with the fun. I always prefer to read a book before I see its film adaptation, even though I don't always manage to stick to that particular rule. Today's top 10 consists of 10 book-to-movie adaptations I personally loved; I'd love to hear what some of your favourites are! :)

1. Harry Potter

Obviously the Harry Potter series deserves to be mentioned in this top 10. I think the entire film series was incredibly well done and really did the books justice, even though lots of things from the books never made it into the actual films.

2. Stardust

A truly brilliant film adaptation and one of the only instances mentioned in this list where I honestly think the film is better than the book.

3. Pride and Prejudice (1995)

Without a doubt the best 'Pride and Prejudice' adaptation; I love almost everything about it.

4. Little Women (1994)

One of my favourite films of all time <3 I couldn't get enough of it when I was a girl and it's still one of my favourite novels.

5. The Devil Wears Prada

Another great film adaptation that stayed really close to the original book and the casting was incredibly well done.

6. Twilight

I know lots of people think the film series of 'Twilight' was horrible, but I especially loved the first film, almost as much as I loved the first book of the series.

7. Confessions of a Shopaholic

A must-see for any chick lit fan, and a must-read as well, of course!

8. The Notebook

All Nicholas Sparks film adaptations are amazing, if you ask me. I picked 'The Notebook' for this list, but I honestly love all of them.

9. Something Borrowed

One of my favourite books and films; one where, once again, the casting was incredibly well done.

10. Matilda

Another childhood favourite, both film and book. Mara Wilson was meant to play Matilda!
