Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Books To Read If You Are In The Mood For Romance

'Top Ten Tuesday' is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. I love making lists, so this feature fits me perfectly! If you also take part in this feature or have any additions to my lists, please get in touch; I'd love to hear from you!

Top 10 Books to Read If You Are in the Mood for Romance

I love good romance stories that make you want to cry and smile at the same time; the kind of love that you wish to find in your own life, even though secretly you know this kind of love is simply too good to be true in the real world... For this week's top 10 I had to think of ten titles fitting a specific mood, so I decided to go with romance. So if you're looking for a romantic story to cheer you up, definitely don't hesitate to pick up one of the titles below; you won't be disappointed!

Be sure to share your own TTT's in the comments section below; I'd love to hear from you!

1. 'Pride and Prejudice' - Jane Austen

The most romantic story of them all <3

2. 'The Notebook' - Nicholas Sparks

Probably Nicholas Sparks' most romantic novel. I'm still not sure whether it's my personal favourite of his, but definitely one worth picking up!

3. 'P.S. I Love You' - Cecelia Ahern

This story made me cry more than once and the romance in it is heart-breaking but beautiful.

4. 'The Time Traveler's Wife' - Audrey Niffenegger

A story like no other story I've read so far. It's not one of my all-time favourites, but this book will definitely give you a romantic story.

5. 'Persuasion' - Jane Austen

I just love the romantic story between the Austen heroine of this book, Anne Elliot, and Captain Wentworth.

6. 'Puffin Island series' - Sarah Morgan

Sarah Morgan is definitely a queen of romance; I've only read two of her novels so far, but am reading the third one right now and it's once again a fantastic read filled with romance!

7. 'A Walk to Remember' - Nicholas Sparks

Another one by Nicholas Sparks, but a brilliant one, possibly my personal favourite!

8. 'The Fault in Our Stars' - John Green

I'm not a big YA fan, but even I can't ignore the amazing romance story in this book!

9. 'Twilight' - Stephenie Meyer

I'm a real sucker for the romance between Bella and Edward <3

10. 'The First Lass Kiss' - Ali Harris

A must-read for any chick lit fan!

Upcoming release: 'Valentine's on Primrose Hill' by Nikki Moore

The third short story in the fun & flirty #LoveLondon series from exciting new chick lit author Nikki Moore!

For Georgiana Dunn, life changed forever in the devastating moment that the lorry hit her car.

Scarred and scared, she's not left the house in months. Then her mum buys her a puppy, forcing her to face the world again, walking on London's beautiful Primrose Hill. But that doesn't mean she's looking forward to Valentine's Day.

Leo devotes himself to working with children with special educational needs. In fact, he does very little else, and his friends are always telling him to get a (love) life. So when they challenge him to find a date for Valentine's Day, and he meets a lovely but lost girl who looks like she could use a friend, he thinks he's found the perfect solution.

But life has a way of being less than perfect … Will he be left standing on his own on the most romantic day of the year?

On the 29th of January, the third part of Nikki Moore's #LoveLondon series will be released, titled 'Valentine's on Primrose Hill.' I absolutely love the covers and blurbs of Nikki Moore's book series and while I'm writing this I still can't believe I haven't checked the other parts out yet. It sounds like the perfect read for chick lit fans, like me, and I just love everything about it: from the fact that the stories are all set in different locations in London to the promised romantic stories... I have a good feeling this is a definite must-read this January!

Unknown-467

Secrets and scandals, love and lust – when the ‘Cheshire Set’ are up against the ‘Footballer’s Wives’ the only common ground is carnal…

Flirting and fun seem the perfect antidote for Lottie's battered heart, and where better to find them than back in tranquil Tippermere, home of sexy eventer Rory Steel, the smiling Irish eyes of hunky farrier Mick O'Neal, and mysterious newcomer, model Tom Strachan?

But when landowner Marcus James drops dead unexpectedly, and the threat of his waggish wife Amanda selling the heart of the village out from under them looms large, things look like they're about to heat up in and out of the saddle.

With tensions running high, and the champagne flowing as freely as the adrenalin, is it any wonder that love catches more than one of them unawares?

I Blame James
Guest Post by Zara Stoneley

When I was younger my mother wanted me to be like James Herriot. Well, I wanted to be like James, a vet. Not, obviously the type who permanently had one arm in the nether regions of a mooing cow, and two feet in very muddy wellingtons. No, more the type that spent a lot of time cuddling puppies and kissing kittens. But my mother had other ideas. She wanted me to write like James Herriot. As in a best-selling very funny and popular book about animals, that is turned into a TV series or a film (I can now see where she was coming from).

I did it my way, I did write a book but it was more James Bond than James Herriot (animals and 007 were my twin obsessions). I sent it to Michael Joseph publishers (because they published my favourite books) and got on with nagging my parents to let me have a puppy, and pay for horse riding lessons.
Time passed, I grew up, and became an IT consultant wearing designer suits instead of wellies, and applying my fingers to a keyboard rather than anything four legged and furry.

And then, one day I decided a sudden career change was in order. I set up a dog grooming business, and bought a horse (no, there isn’t any logic). The dogs were funny (did I tell you about the collie that liked to climb trees?), me and the horse were funnier (ever been towed through a picnicking family by a fat cob?). So I’d come full circle, almost. And I decided to apply those fingers to a different keyboard. And write Stable Mates.

I blame James, and I blame my mother (who definitely knew best) – which is why I dedicated the book to her. Now, anybody fancy turning it into a TV series?

Review: 'Good Catch' by Tracy Ann Lord (2013)

Maddie Chilton, the reigning queen of Miami’s hottest PR firm, has been dethroned. Now she’s roughing it at a fishing camp on a lake in the middle of rural Maine. This is what her co-workers chose as a going-away present? Maddie is not a “showers optional” kind of gal.

Not only is she surrounded by fish, but also a lot of fishy characters. There’s Flo, the opera-loving/customer-loathing cook, and Wayne, the too-handy handyman. Fortunately there’s also Cal Boretti, her handsome, skinny-dipping fishing guide.

Appearances, of course, can be deceiving, and Maddie soon discovers that the camp and its residents are about so much more than fishing. Between budding romance and an exciting new business opportunity, Maddie’s dim view of Lake Mooselookmeguntic is beginning to lighten up.

She may not have a knack for fishing, but Maddie is about to make the good catch of a lifetime.

In February I got the chance to interview author Karoline Barrett about her novel 'The Art of Being Rebekkah' which was published by E-Lit Books (click here to read the interview). Thanks to this introduction to E-Lit Books, I also received a review copy of another one of their releases, namely 'Good Catch' by Tracy Ann Lord. I hadn't heard anything about this October 2013 release, but the blurb sounded interesting and I was curious to give the book a try in exchange for an honest review!

Maddie Chilton has worked incredibly hard to get the PR career she always wanted, but now she unexpectedly finds herself being replaced by a younger version of herself. In order to get away from it all for a while, Maddie receives a trip to a location in Maine from her co-workers. However, instead of a relaxing stay at a luxurious spa, which would have been fitting, Maddie finds herself at a fishing camp in the middle of nowhere. At first, Maddie wants nothing more than run back to Miami, but knowing she has nothing further to lose, she decides to give the fishing camp and its slightly strange inhabitants a chance.

The basic plotline of this novel is one of the classics within the world of chick lit; a female from the city ends up in a place in the middle of nowhere, somewhere she at first thinks she doesn't belong, but she decides to give it, and the people she meets there, a chance after all. The location in 'Good Catch' is an original one, though, namely a fishing camp. I have to admit, I wasn't too sure about this location at first, but Tracy Ann Lord really managed to turn it into a fascinating and enjoyable story, and I ended up quite loving the idea of this fishing camp!

Maddie is an interesting protagonist and I really enjoyed seeing her character develop throughout the novel. The mixed cast of secondary characters play a significant role in this and really added something to the plotline. I specifically warmed to handsome and slightly mysterious Cal and quirky cook Flo. The plotline is also more than just Maddie trying to survive a week at fishing camp and it had me captivated until the last page. 'Good Catch' is an enjoyable and intriguing romance read, ideal for a lazy afternoon!
