10 Books to Read If You Like Nicholas Sparks

I am absolutely head over heels in love with Nicholas Sparks and I'm not afraid to say it. I love love love his romantic novels and he's one of my favourite authors ever. He just really understands what romance is all about and I envy his wife, to be honest! So, for today's Top Ten Tuesday list I went through the list of books I've read over the last couple of years and decided to find 10 books I think would be perfect to pick up if you enjoy Nicholas Sparks' novels. So, if you're in the mood for a good romance, be sure to pick up one of the novels below!

1. Tasmina Perry - 'The Proposal'

I loved this Tasmina Perry novel which included a lovely romance. It's really well-written and I just loved it from start to finish.

2. Cecelia Ahern - 'Where Rainbows End'

If you enjoy Nicholas Sparks' stories, you should definitely give Cecelia Ahern a go, if you haven't already. I love the magic feel of her novels and 'Where Rainbows End' is my favourite.

3. Amanda Prowse - 'Will You Remember Me?'

The love sparks off the pages in Amanda Prowse's novels and 'Will You Remember Me?' is one that will certainly make you cry a tear or two!

4. Lisa Jewell - 'Vince and Joy'

One of my favourite books as a teenager. I used to love the romantic story of main characters Vince and Joy and definitely want to pick up the book again, see what I think about it now I'm older.

5. Hannah Beckerman - 'The Dead Wife's Handbook'

Perhaps a bit more dramatic than Nicholas Sparks' novels, but still an emotional and beautiful story that's definitely worth picking up.

6. Melissa Hill - 'A Gift to Remember'

Oh, I loved this book. The story inside is just as lovely as the book cover!

7. Charity Norman - 'The Son-in-Law'

Another author whose writing reminds me of Nicholas Sparks. Charity Norman is an amazing author and her novels always make an impression and have me thinking about the characters for weeks.

8. Ella Harper - 'Pieces of You'

Okay, there are quite a lot of real tearjerkers on this list, haha! 'Pieces of You' is another one, but a simply stunning novel as well.

9. Amy Silver - 'The Reunion'

Amy Silver's 'The Reunion' is a novel that really stayed with me and one that deserves to be read by a lot more people.

10. Jane Austen - 'Pride and Prejudice'

Of course this novel deserves a place on this list, did you expect anything else? The mother of all romantic stories, if you ask me <3

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books That Would Be On My Syllabus If I Taught Classic Literature 101

Top Ten Books That Would Be On My Syllabus If I Taught Classic Literature 101

I missed a few Top Ten Tuesday weeks because of my holiday and blog hiatus, but this Tuesday I'm back joining in with the Top 10 fun! For this week's list I had to decide on a particular group of books I would have on my syllabus if I taught that particular course... A fun list for which I decided to go with the 10 classic novels I would definitely include in my course of English Literature! Be sure to check out my list below and share your own Top 10 links in the comments section!

1. 'Pride and Prejudice' - Jane Austen

Any of you who know me or visit my blog more often will not be surprised by the first author on my Top 10 list. I'd include all 6 of Austen's novels, but since I can only pick 10 I decided to go with her best one and my personal favourite, 'Pride and Prejudice.'

2. 'Odyssey' - Homer

One of the great classics and one I remembered really enjoying when I had to read (and translate...) parts of it during my Greek and Latin classes at secondary school.

3. 'Harry Potter' series - J.K. Rowling

One of the best book series ever written and one I think everyone should read, no exceptions!

4. 'Little Women' - Louisa May Alcott

Another personal favourite and one I'm pretty sure most other female readers will enjoy as well. I actually visited the Alcott family home last summer and it definitely made my love for the book and author only stronger! <3

5. 'Jane Eyre' - Charlotte Bronte

This book was part of my own literature list when I was studying English and one of the only classics I remind really enjoying, so it deserves a place on this top 10.

6. 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' - Lewis Caroll

Lewis Carroll deserves a spot on every classic English literature list in my opinion, even though his work might not be everyone's cup of tea.

7. 'A Christmas Carol' - Charles Dickens

Dickens is another author who definitely deserves to be on this list. I decided to go with a bit of Christmas spirit with 'A Christmas Carol'!

8. 'The Taming of the Shrew' - William Shakespeare

Even though I'm not the biggest Shakespeare fan, I can't deny his importance within the world of classic English literature. I decided to go with one of his plays which I personally quite enjoyed, 'The Taming of the Shrew' (which also provides me with the chance to link it to the film 'Ten Things I Hate About You' which was actually based on this Shakespeare original).

9. 'Gone With the Wind' - Margaret Mitchell

A novel which I actually have never read, even though I am quite sure I'd really enjoy it. By adding it to this syllabus I'd force myself to finally sit down with the book and read it.

10. 'The Notebook' - Nicholas Sparks

As a true chick lit/romance fan, I of course need a romantic contemporary classic on the list, such as Nicholas Sparks' 'The Notebook.'

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Books I'd Love to See as Movies/TV Shows

Top Ten Books I'd Love to See as Movies/TV Shows

I love this week's Top Ten Tuesday list! I'm not just obsessed with books, but also especially with TV shows and I've read so many books that immediately made me think: 'Oh, this would make a brilliant TV show or movie!' Today, I get to share some of these titles with you and I'd love to hear your thoughts! Which books do you think would make a really great film or TV show? Don't hesitate to share your thoughts by leaving a comment below! :)

1. Sophie Kinsella - The 'Shopaholic' series

Yes, I do know 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' has already been turned into a film (2009, starring Isla Fisher), but I never understood why they decided to only make one while the series consists of 7 fabulous novels! I still think this would make a great series of films, perfect for chick flick fans!

2. Ali McNamara - 'From Notting Hill with Love... Actually'

Talking about chick flicks, Ali McNamara's 'From Notting Hill...' books would make absolutely perfect romantic comedies <3

3. Cathy Bramley - 'Ivy Lane'

I personally loved Cathy Bramley's 'Ivy Lane' and I think the book would be perfect to turn into a TV show! There is a great cast of characters with a lot of different storylines to focus on... I'd definitely watch it!

4. Melissa Hill - 'A Gift to Remember'

Another novel which I loved from start to finish and which I think would make a lovely film (with a handsome leading man to make us all swoon)!

5. Rachel Hollis - 'Party Girl' & 'Sweet Girl'

Rachel Hollis' book series would make the perfect TV show! There are some great female characters who are friends and go through a lot together... I just know this would work just as perfectly on TV as it does on paper!

6. Claudia Carroll - 'Love Me or Leave Me'

Another book which I think would make a thoroughly entertaining film or maybe even TV show. 'Love Me or Leave Me' focuses on a special break-up hotel where couples go to break-up/take care of their divorce. A great setting for a film/show, if you ask me!

7. Victoria Connelly - 'A Weekend with Mr. Darcy'

I can never get enough of Jane Austen-inspired stories and I would love it if Victoria Connelly's Austen Addicts series would become a big-screen adaptation!

8. Tasmina Perry - 'Deep Blue Sea'

Tasmina Perry's novels always have me on the edge of my seat. I just love her action-filled stories and I think they would make great films.

9. Lindsey Kelk - 'I Heart...' series

I don't even know where to start with this one. Lindsey Kelk's 'I Heart...' series was MADE to be turned into a TV show or a series of films and the day it happens I will be one of the first people in line to see it!

10. Meg Cabot - 'Heather Wells' series

Meg Cabot's 'Heather Wells' series is a combination of detective/chick lit and a series that would also make a really cool TV show, I think!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Books I Will Probably Never Read

'Top Ten Tuesday' is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. I love making lists, so this feature fits me perfectly! If you also take part in this feature or have any additions to my lists, please get in touch; I'd love to hear from you!

Top Ten Books I Will Probably Never Read

This week is a Top Ten Tuesday freebie week, so we get to pick our own top 10 to share with everyone. I missed a Top Ten Tuesday a few weeks ago, so I decided to go with that topic for this week, namely my top 10 of books I will probably never read!

1. 'The Lord of the Rings' series - J.R.R. Tolkien

I tried reading 'The Fellowship of the Ring' when I was younger and I just couldn't get through it. I've seen the films and I've heard how amazing the books are, but I don't think I will ever actually read them.

2. 'Les Miserables' - Victor Hugo

I only saw the film version of 'Les Miserables' and it just made me feel.... quite miserable, to be honest. I know it's supposed to be a tragic story, but this was just too much drama and unhappiness for me, so I don't think I will ever read the book or go see the musical.

3. 'War and Peace' - Leo Tolstoy

Yeah, this is just never going to happen... Never.

4. 'Cloud Atlas' - David Mitchell

I've heard lots of great things about this book, but somehow it just doesn't appeal to me and I don't think I will ever get to actually picking it up and sitting down with it.

5. 'A Game of Thrones' series - George R.R. Martin

I'm a sucker for a happy ending and with the number of characters that are killed off in this series, I just know I probably won't enjoy it.

6. Anything by Stephen King

I checked out other people's lists and noticed Stephen King made an appearance on many of them. I have to agree, though, I know he's one of the most popular authors around, but I don't think I will ever actually read one of his works.

7. 'Eat, Pray, Love' - Elizabeth Gilbert

A book which was a big hit a few years ago and everyone seemed to be talking about it or recommending it. Somehow, I never got a copy and I also really don't feel the need to read it.

8. 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' - Stieg Larsson

Another book which lots of people loved and keep talking about, but I am 100% sure I will never sit down and read it unless I'm forced to. The story just doesn't appeal to me at all.

9. 'Mad About the Boy' - Helen Fielding

I think almost everyone has read the spoiler of what Helen Fielding decided to do to one of the main characters in the Bridget Jones series. I just don't think I will be able to read this book, knowing what I know!

10. Any other books by J.M. Coetzee

I had to read several Coetzee novels when I was at university and the books just made me feel horrible. I really don't want to pick up any of his books again, even though I can understand why people think he's a great author. It just really isn't for me.
